New Faculty Support

Click here to access the new Faculty Support website

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the first phase of our New Faculty Support website. The idea is to provide ‘just enough’ information for new faculty—not to duplicate all of the many fine resources already available online.

Our plan is to make needed information and resources more easily accessible for new faculty, and to help answer questions new people might not even know they need to ask. For example, things like when to order books, completing the ethics workshop before applying for Human Subjects review, how to become graduate faculty (and why) and other important stuff.

The website you will explore is not well developed yet—it is the first phase of design and its purpose is to provide a framework for revision and rethinking, so many important resources do not appear there yet. That is where you come in.
We need your help with developing the next phase. While we would appreciate any comments on what you like about the site, it would be very helpful if you could provide stories and ideas about what is missing here. Think back to your first year here, or think about a new colleague’s experiences.

I’d like to include some of the stories that some people have already shared about their first year, and those will accompany some of the information that we include on the website. So, if you have a story that goes along with a suggestion, we’d love to hear it.

My IDT740 Design Studio class will take this work on as the course project this fall and learn to apply theory, research and design in a real world application. I expect that we will have a fine product by the end of the semester that will provide needed information and resources for all faculty, but particularly new faculty.
